Form Nutrition

EquiForm Nutrition have over a century of experience in the development of a full range of equine supplements.  Recently they have developed a gelatine-based product to expand their business portfolio into poultry farming.

Newly hatched chicks struggle to access water from traditional poultry water feeders which they have to firstly learn to locate and then peck.  This means they can become quickly dehydrated and not gain essential weight.

Form Nutrition have developed a gelatine-based product that is formed into large blocks containing proteins, water and essential vitamins & nutrients, to be fed to the chicks.

How Metcalfe helped Form Nutrition

Problem

The farmer needs to be able to distribute the new product by hand inside the poultry sheds but Form Nutrition found that grating or slicing the gel led to clumping, meaning that the chicks couldn't swallow it.

Through trial and error they discovered that a dice shape was the ideal solution.  They are currently hand cutting and cubing the product as they couldn't find a machine that would successfully dice the product.

Solution

Using the 8mm Soft Slicer with the 8mm Dice grid, the Hallde RG-200 seamlessly produced the ideal shape, whilst minimising heat.

The decoring device within the RG-200 prevented the machine from blocking ensuring the feed cylinder remained clear during continual feeding.

Result

With the help of the RG-200, this revolutionary product now means that a chick will now access essential water and nutrients which has also led to a gain in body weight of up to 6oz per week.

The Form Nutrition team can now save valuable time and increase production, predicting that they will grow exponentially and that the introduction of the RG-400i will soon be a reality.
